Directors UK Board Election

Associate Members Representative – Longer Statement

Here I outline more reasons why I am standing for election to represent Associate members on the DUK Board.

1. To have a positive impact on how Directors UK, its mission and strategy evolve in relation to:

a) the specific challenges facing us as a profession (such as AI or the impact of streamers and evolving consumer behaviour) and

b) wider social issues and political realities such as: the policy impact of a General Election; ongoing consequences of Brexit; a Cost of Living Crisis; or increased uncertainty in the face of global ‘polycrisis’ (linked to climate emergency, conflict and geopolitical shifts).

2. Give back to the vocation which I love: if elected I would strive be an ambassador for Associate members and for directing, holding in mind how the realities mentioned in point 1 affect members differently.

3. Use my understanding of inequality and lived experience as a global majority woman, carer and parent to contribute to a profession that is more representative.

4. Use my warmth, probity and acumen to be a reliable and collegiate partner for other board members.

5. Build good relationships with, learn from and grow with Directors UK’s board, senior team, staff and membership.

6. Harness my skills, experience and knowledge — of directing and the wider screen ecology — to represent and advocate for Associate members and their interests.

7. To be a constructive and challenging interlocutor in relation to Directors UK strategy.

Thank you!

I hope I can represent you and grow with you and Directors UK.
